Local PR company hires DkIT Graduate

9dots, the All-Ireland PR agency has recruited its first full-time staff member, first class honours PR degree graduate Karen Doherty. Karen has been appointed as Account Executive and will provide public relations consultancy to clients across numerous sectors in Ireland, as well as the UK.

Founded and managed by PR veteran, Roisin Duffy, 9dots, the All-Ireland PR agency is in its first year of trading and is already competing alongside some of the most established PR companies in the country. Due to significant growth in the past year, this new and dynamic PR business is expanding its existing team of external associates and consultants to provide for its award-winning clients.

Karen studied public relations for four years at the School of Business and Humanities at DkIT. In October 2010, she became one of Ireland's first ever PR graduates to obtain a Bachelor of Arts.

“I am delighted for Karen", said Shane Hill, head of Department of Management and Financial Studies, DkIT. "Karen was an excellent student and it is wonderful to see one of our first PR graduates secure employment locally within such a dynamic local organisation.”

During her work experience at DkIT, Karen got the opportunity to provide PR support to some high profile companies including Pat the Baker, The Regional Development Centre, iRadio i105-107FM, Serious PR, Greenshoots Incubation Centre, Go Europa and Brandt Technologies. Karen also got the opportunity to provide PR for DkIT’s Guinness World Record breaking attempt for the most people rocking the boat at the one time. This saw DkIT receive nationwide media coverage on television, online, in print and on radio.

"I am very pleased to welcome Karen on board as Account Executive", said Roisin Duffy, founder and managing director of 9dots, the All-Ireland PR agency. "Karen will be based at 18 Francis Street and play a key role here in terms of delivering for our clients. Already, in her short time with us she has been achieving great results. The PR degree course at DkIT prepares students well for the 'real world' of work given the subjects it covers and the 5 month work placement it offers. I first met Karen on her work placement a few years ago when I was providing consultancy to IQ360, a cross-border entrepreneurial programme between the RDC at DkIT and Greenshoots at the Southern Regional College. At that time, Karen impressed me with her natural way of communicating, her attention to detail and her appetite for good news stories. At 9dots, we are reporters as much as advisers and communication is our discipline. Karen is now a valued member of our team and she is embarking on a new journey with us and our clients."

Karen is a member of Dundalk’s best-known dance group, Dance Kids Stage School. For the past three years, Karen has managed PR for the dance group, which has seen it go from strength to strength.

"I am delighted to join the 9dots team as there is so much going on and we're working with such great companies and individuals. At the best of times it is so difficult to get into the PR industry, but now more so than ever during the recession. There are less jobs and more pressures on PR companies so I am very happy to have found a PR role. It's great that there is a local PR firm so close-by and one that is adhering to such professional industry standards and working with some of the best companies in the country."
